Strengthening Capacity for the Use of Misoprostol & Magnesium Sulphate in selected states in Nigeria – Supported by: UNFPA 7th Country Programme.

CPRH was contracted to provide Emergency Obstetric care and Neonatal care EMONC technical Support on the use of Misoprostol and Magnesium Sulphate for the management of pre-eclamapsia / eclamapsia – the second leading cause of maternal mortality in Nigeria in facilities in Seven (7) UNFPA selected States, namely: Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States, from North-West and North-East of the country where the burden of Eclampsia is heaviest. There were several planning meetings on implementation of training on use of Misoprostol and Magnesium Sulphate, key Stakeholders Meeting to review, and harmonize several manuals/protocols into one standard document for use, Selection of Master trainers for each state. A Training of Trainers’ (TOT) was conducted for selected Master Trainers and Reproductive Health Coordinators from the seven (7) selected states in other to strengthen capacity for the use of Magnesium Sulphate and Misoprostol as well as to be able to conduct step-down trainings to 50 participants in their respective states.

All phases of the project implementation were successful. Currently baseline data collection has been concluded. The project is now in its mentoring phase which also includes the monthly collection of data from the health facilities to monitor trends in selected indicators.
